On the death of Peter Serkin

On February 1st the 72-year old pianist Peter Serkin, son of Rudolf and Irene Serkin and grandson of Adolf Busch, passed away. Peter Serkin, born 1947 in Manhatten, was interpret of rarely performed works, contemporary music by Stefan Wolpe, Toru Takemitsu, Charles Wuorinen, Olivier Messiaen, Peter Lieberson and his grandfather Adolf Busch was in his repertoire as well as Bach, Mozart or music of the renaissance. He was an advocate for Regers and Adolf Buschs work. In the Reger-year 2016 he was the one did the most performances of Regers Piano Concerto in f Minor op. 114. Until the end, already heavily suffering from cancer, he was active as a pianist.
